Number 6 – Where will we be in ten years time?
What do you want to be when you’re older?
When are you getting married?
Do you think you’ll have children?
Have you thought about houses? You really should get on the property ladder!
“Where do you see yourself in ten years?” Is another of those grown up questions that I roll my eyes at when I hear it!
When I was twelve I “fell in love” with a Spanish boy and decided that one day I would move to Spain, marry a Spanish man, have Spanish babies and live happily ever after. For a long time, I had my mind made up; that was what I wanted and they were thought that made me very happy.
The older I got, my love for Spain and all things Spanish continued to grow; I studies Spanish through high school and college, got a degree in it at University and reached my dream of living in Spain after my years of studying. Whilst living over there, I developed a love, a desire even, for travel and adventure- I wanted to see it (Spain) all. Full of excitement, I lived every traditional/cultural festival to the maximum and the youthful thoughts I had on marriage, babies and whatnot quickly began to change.
Now I’m not saying no, not ever and maybe I’m not 100% sure as to why my plans have changed over the years, but I am sure that I don;t have an answer for you, or anyone right now. Not even for myself. I don’t know where I’ll be in ten years time, I’m not sure what I’ll be up to. So for now, I’ll continue taking each day as it comes and carry on the search for the next adventure.
What I do know, is that the last two years have made me look at the world very differently. Life is too short and we must make the absolute most of every opportunity thrown in our paths. I believe that only we can make the decisions that are right for us and after many a year of “those questions” – while I appreciate the advice and ideas – I’m just trying to listen to me for now.
Ten years from now I don’t know where I’ll be but I plan to be happy and surrounded by people I love. Wherever I am, whatever I’ll be doing, I’m sure there will be something Spanish related in there! 🙂
